PHOENIX -- Curtis Granderson literally offered a thumbs up in the clubhouse when asked how his first action since being forced from Monday's game went.

Granderson, pinch-hitting for Dillon Gee in the eighth, grounded out to second base in the Mets' eventual 5-2 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

He had departed Monday's game in the sixth inning with bruises to his left wrist, ribs and knee after colliding with the outfield wall earlier in that game.

Terry Collins expects Granderson will return to the starting lineup Friday, when the Mets open a series at Citi Field against the Atlanta Braves.

"Hopefully," Granderson said. "We'll see how things feel with one more off-day."
