DENVER -- Daisuke Matsuzaka downplayed a right-calf issue that prompted trainer Ray Ramirez to come to the mound during the seventh inning, in Matsuzaka’s third inning of relief Saturday.

“I’m not really worried about it at all,” Matsuzaka said through an interpreter. “It’s nothing serious. I think it’s only going to be something that came up today and that will be the end of it. I’m confident it isn’t severe, that I’d be comfortable pitching tomorrow.”

After the visit from Ramirez, Matsuzaka yielded a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the seventh but completed the inning and departed. He allowed one run in 2 2/3 innings of effective relief.

Said Terry Collins: “We were worried about his calf tightening up. He was stretching it a lot.”
