MIAMI -- Terry Collins understands why the Colorado Rockies are having dramatically different production at home versus on the road. He cannot find a simple reason why the Miami Marlins are having a similar disparity.

"It's incredible, especially when you compare them to last year, the splits here," Collins said before Monday's series opener. "All I know is they're hitting it really good here."

Miami averages 6.2 runs per game at Marlins Park and 2.7 runs per game on the road this season.

Last year the Marlins averaged 3.4 runs at home and 2.9 runs on the road.

Miami is an MLB-best 14-5 at home and an MLB-worst 2-10 on the road this year.

Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez recently wondered aloud if something suspicious is going on at Marlins Park, although he acknowledged he has no proof.

Collins said Mets bench coach Bob Geren and pitching coach Dan Warthen already have discussed making the Mets' signs different than normal just in case the Marlins might be stealing them -- whether that's via camera or otherwise.

"Bob and Dan and I have already got together today. And we'll get with the catchers and the pitcher tonight and we're going to vary some stuff," Collins said. "I'm not accusing anybody of anything."
