MIAMI -- Omar Quintanilla became a casualty of the Mets' subpar road trip.

The Mets designated for assignment Quintanilla on Wednesday night, after completing a road trip with a 1-0 loss to the Miami Marlins in the afternoon.

The Mets have not yet announced a corresponding move, but a team insider said it will be an internal promotion, not the addition of free agent Stephen Drew or a trade.

Quintanilla, 32, hit .207 with three RBIs in 29 at-bats this season. He made a critical error during the Marlins series.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
