WASHINGTON -- Juan Lagares planned to travel to the Dominican Republic after Sunday's series finale in D.C., but told team officials he did expect to travel to New York in time for Tuesday's series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citi Field.

Lagares is mourning the death of a family member, a team official said.

The Mets do not play Monday, then begin a stretch of 20 games in 20 days.
