NEW YORK -- Juan Lagares will miss Tuesday's game because he remains in the Dominican Republic due to the death of a family member.

Sandy Alderson said the Mets will play a man down in the series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers rather than place Lagares on the bereavement list.

The list would have allowed a replacement to be promoted, but also would have required Lagares to miss Wednesday's game, because it is a three-day roster move. Lagares is expected back in uniform on Wednesday.
