NEW YORK -- Dillon Gee is now expected to miss three turns in the rotation while on the disabled list, up from the original two projected by the organization.

Gee, on the disabled list with a strained right lat muscle, said he wanted to pitch in one rehab game before returning to the major-league rotation.

Gee plans to throw on flat ground on Wednesday for the first time since landing on the DL on May 11.

Jacob deGrom, originally promoted for bullpen work, should now get at least three starts before Gee's return. At that point, deGrom could shift to relief work, as had been originally intended. Or, perhaps, if he is seriously outperforming Rafael Montero, it is conceivable deGrom remains in the rotation.
