NEW YORK -- Gonzalez Germen, who had started a rehab assignment Friday with Class A St. Lucie, will not return to the Mets from the disabled list on Wednesday when eligible.
Germen, officially placed on the DL with a virus on May 6, is now dealing with an abscess as well as flu-like symptoms, Sandy Alderson said.
An abscess is defined as a buildup of fluid or pus in an area that is tender. The GM did not specify where the right-handed reliever was experiencing that issue.
Germen has been taken off that rehab assignment, according to Alderson.
