NEW YORK -- Injured Mets starter Dillon Gee did not throw a bullpen session on Sunday as planned, general manager Sandy Alderson revealed following the team's 4-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Citi Field.

"Dillon Gee did not feel comfortable today throwing a 'pen," Alderson said. "It never got that far. So we’ll back him off a little bit."

Gee, off to a great start this season (3-1, 2.73 ERA), was placed on the 15-day disabled list May 14 with a strained right lat muscle. He told reporters Sunday morning that he did plan to throw Sunday, so something clearly changed.

Gee's setback means we'll likely see more of rookies Rafael Montero and Jacob deGrom, who both joined the starting rotation recently, replacing Gee and Jenrry Mejia (who is now the Mets' closer).

Black down, den Dekker up, E.Y. out? Alderson also revealed that reliever Vic Black is headed back to Triple-A Las Vegas, and confirmed that outfielder Matt den Dekker is headed from Las Vegas to New York, with outfielder Eric Young Jr. likely headed to the disabled list with a hamstring injury (reported first by ESPNNewYork.com colleague Adam Rubin).

Black was called up as the Mets' extra man for Sunday's doubleheader but did not pitch in either game.

E.Y. sat out both games of the doubleheader as well, which was manager Terry Collins' decision. "I just came in one day [recently] and it wasn't feeling that good, and then yesterday when I stole that base, I felt it a little bit more," E.Y. said.

He will be examined by a doctor before the team makes a final decision on disabling him. E.Y. is batting .220 with one home run, seven RBIs, and is tied for third in the majors with 17 stolen bases. Meanwhile, den Dekker is batting .269 with four home runs and 26 RBIs in 47 games for Las Vegas.
