Murph ticketed for Thursday break

CHICAGO -- Terry Collins plans to give Daniel Murphy a rest on Thursday, when the Mets face left-hander Travis Wood. The manager said Murphy is running on fumes, having started every game since missing the first two of the season while on paternity leave.

Wilmer Flores is due to start at second base that day, with Ruben Tejada at shortstop.

Collins will use Eric Campbell at third base when David Wright has a day off.

Collins did not specify when Wright will be off this trip, but the captain has great numbers against right-hander Edwin Jackson, who starts Wednesday for the Cubs (6-for-15, 1 HR, 3 RBIs, 3 BB). And Wright wouldn't sit Thursday against the southpaw Wood.

So perhaps Friday in San Francisco, when Matt Cain may come off the DL to face the Mets, makes sense. Or Sunday against Tim Lincecum to give Wright a two-day break when coupled with Monday's off-day. Although Lincecum isn't exactly the same caliber of pitcher as early in his career, Wright nonetheless is 3-for-23 lifetime against him.
