SAN FRANCISCO -- With No. 1 catcher Travis d'Arnaud now a minor leaguer, Terry Collins said he will split the playing time relatively equally between Anthony Recker and call-up Taylor Teagarden.

Teagarden, 30, has appeared in the majors for parts of six seasons with the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles. He has a career .206 average with 20 homers and 63 RBIs in 467 at-bats.

With Triple-A Las Vegas this season, Teagarden was hitting .279 with eight homers, 19 RBIs and 36 strikeouts in 104 at-bats. He also had 22 walks, for a .402 on-base percentage.

"It's not like I'm coming into a brand-new team where I hadn't seen these guys at all," said Teagarden, who was in big-league camp during spring training, then caught some of the younger pitchers this season with Vegas. "Hopefully it won't take too much to get acclimated with these guys and get on the same page."
