ST. LOUIS -- The Mets demoted Matt den Dekker to Triple-A Las Vegas after Wednesday's

series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals. Fellow lefty-hitting outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis will join the Mets for Thursday's series opener in Miami.

Den Dekker batted .156 (7-for-45) with one RBI in 17 games.

Nieuwenhuis is hitting .272 with 10 homers and 28 RBIs in 180 at-bats with Vegas. He has produced four multi-hit games in his past five starts with the Pacific Coast League club.
