2011 first-round pick Brandon Nimmo, Long Island native Steven Matz, Bronx native T.J. Rivera, ex-Pirates prospect Dilson Herrera and closer Randy Fontanez all were promoted, according to TCPalm.com reporter Jon Santucci.

Rivera, an infielder who signed after going undrafted out of Troy State University in 2011, ranked second in the Florida State League with a .341 average, trailing only teammate Jairo Perez (.365).

Nimmo, an outfielder from Wyoming, ranked fifth in the league at .322. He had a league-leading .448 on-base percentage.

Herrera, a middle infielder, was acquired with Vic Black in the Marlon Byrd/John Buck trade last August. The 20-year-old Colombian hit .307 with three homers and 23 RBIs in 283 at-bats.

Matz, a left-hander from Stony Brook on Long Island and the Mets' top pick in 2009, went 4-4 with a 2.21 ERA in 12 starts. He allowed 66 hits and 21 walks while striking out 62 in 69 1/3 innings.

Fontanez, a 27th-round pick in 2011 out of the University of South Florida, had a 2.56 ERA and 10 saves.

St. Lucie, which was rained out Wednesday, finished the first half at 40-29. The Mets were eliminated on the final day of the first half when Fort Myers (41-28) beat Bradenton.
