A deal with first-round pick Michael Conforto will be done soon, but he's enjoying a brief period to exhale after a long college season.
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The dollar figure for first-round pick Michael Conforto already has been settled. The Oregon State outfielder will receive $2,970,800, which is the precise MLB recommendation for the 10th overall pick.
So what's the snag in the deal not yet being announced?
There is none, a source briefed on the talks told ESPNNewYork.com.
Conforto had a long Pac-12 season and did not mind a breather to exhale with his family in Washington state before beginning his professional career. And agent Scott Boras had other first-round picks to handle anyway.
So the sides, while knowing all along a deal would be done, have slow-tracked it.
