FIRST PITCH: Is this finally the day David Wright returns to the Mets' lineup? The All-Star third baseman has been missing the past eight days because of a bruised left rotator cuff, and when bad weather kept him from testing the shoulder on the field Friday afternoon, Mets doctors recommended he wait another day.

So is this finally the day? That’s the plan.

It’s also the day the Mets send Bartolo Colon (8-6, 3.88) to the mound, which could make it interesting if they plan to trade him this month. Colby Lewis (5-5, 5.71) starts for the Texas Rangers, in a game scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. start as part of Fox TV’s Saturday night package (although the Mets and Rangers will only be shown in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas and a few other scattered places, including, for some reason, Fargo, N.D.).

Saturday’s news reports:

• The Mets broke a four-game losing streak, with Travis d'Arnaud's eighth-inning double giving them a 6-5 win over the Rangers. Read game stories in the Post and Daily News.

Jon Niese left Friday’s game after just 12 pitches when he was hit by an Alex Rios line drive. Niese reported after the game that he was “100 percent,” and ESPNNY.com’s Adam Rubin suggested the Mets could bring him back to start on Monday or Tuesday. Daisuke Matsuzaka would shift to the bullpen immediately, with Dillon Gee likely to return on Wednesday. Read more on the Mets injuries in the Times.

• Sandy Alderson spoke before the game, once again contending that the Mets are better than their 38-48 record would indicate. Read more in Newsday.

BIRTHDAYS: Jeff Innis turns 52 today.

YOU’RE UP: Do you want to see the Mets trade Colon?
