Thole impresses late

Starting catcher Josh Thole had another two hits, including a ninth inning single that put the winning run on base in the ninth.

Thole also made a nice play at the plate to nail Wes Helms. to end the eighth On a 7-6-2 putout, Thole stay composed to make a nice stop on the Jose Reyes relay.

Thole does not seem overwhelmed by his opportunity or pressure situations.

"He likes being at the plate late," Mets manager Jerry Manuelsaid after the Mets' 5-4 loss to the Marlins.

Manuel added that Thole doesn't panic.

REYES PLAN: Jose Reyes made the last out of the game with the bases loaded. After Tuesday night's heroLuis Castillo walked on four pitches against Leo Nunez, Reyes said he looked to take a strike. He took the first pitch for a strike, but then hit a change to Gaby Sanchez at first. Sanchez fielded the grounder and flipped to Nunez to end it.

ODDS & ENDS: Ike Davis had his first career triple. ... Jeff Francoeur snapped an 0-for-17 streak. He had two hits. ... David Wright said he thinks the Mets still have a chance, but they really need a game like Wednesday night. ...The Mets' pen allowed their first run in 17 2/3 innings. ... Pat Misch struggled early, but ended up with an OK start, going six innings and allowing four runs (three earned).

F-MART UPDATE: Fernando Martinez(right knee strain) went on the Triple-A DL. He should be healthy by next month so he still is a candidate to be a September call-up.
