SEATTLE -- Left-handed reliever Scott Rice will undergo surgery on Wednesday to remove a bone spur and relocate a nerve in his pitching elbow.
Rice, 32, last had pitched on June 23, with Triple-A Las Vegas. He had been evaluating the need for surgery versus rehab.
Rice made 32 major league appearances this season. He produced a 5.93 ERA, with lefty batters hitting .262 against him. He was a workhorse as a rookie in 2013, making 73 appearances through Sept. 3 before undergoing sports-hernia surgery.
