MILWAUKEE -- Daisuke Matsuzaka appeared concerned about his right elbow after finishing the seventh inning of Thursday night’s 9-1 loss to the Brewers. Now he’s back in New York getting it checked out.

Matsuzaka came on in the sixth inning, taking over for starter Dillon Gee. His first pitch was crushed by Khris Davis for a home run. The next three batters were retired in order.

In the seventh he allowed a leadoff single, and then with one out Ryan Braun drove a 1-0 pitch over the wall in left field. Matsuzaka struck out Aramis Ramirez and got Rickie Weeks to ground out to second base to end the inning.

Matsuzaka walked off the mound and headed for help in the dugout.

“Dice-K’s elbow was bothering him a little,” manager Terry Collins said Friday. “He’s in New York getting it examined.”

When and if Matsuzaka will return to Milwaukee remains to be determined. “We have no plans at the moment until he’s seen by the doctor in New York,” Collins said.

It’s the first time Matsuzaka has had issues with his elbow, according to Collins.

“He said when he was loosening up, he’d feel it a little bit and thought it was nothing that he couldn’t pitch through,” Collins said.

The manager added that after Thursday's game it was bothering him pretty good.

“We had it looked at here,” Collins said. “We decided to send him to New York.”
