PHILADELPHIA -- Dillon Gee had struggled since the All-Star break, even though he felt in recent starts like he was turning a corner. And he certainly had struggled during his career against the Phillies, particularly in Philadelphia.

With that backdrop, Gee nonetheless offered a stellar showing Saturday.

He took a scoreless effort into the seventh, when he left a 2-0 fastball right in Carlos Ruiz's “wheelhouse.” That solo homer was the only damage against Gee in a seven-inning performance.

Gee ended up with a no-decision as the Mets won, 2-1, in 11 innings.

“The past couple of games I talked about how I thought I was throwing the ball better,” said Gee, who entered the start with a 6.85 ERA in four second-half starts. “I think we could all kind of sense that through the bullpens and the way I was feeling in games that I was on the right track.”

He had a career 7.11 ERA against the Phillies entering Saturday -- 9.56 at Citizens Bank Park.

“It’s nice to go out there and put up a quality start, especially here and against that team,” Gee said. “It seems like in the history, I’ve had trouble with that.”

He added that his pitches got “crisper” as the game progressed.

“The first couple of innings there I felt like I was just pitching with the fastball,” he said. “Luckily, I was able to get through and allow myself enough time to kind of find the rest of it. I felt like I got stronger as the night went on.”
