Game 129: Astros @ Mets

August, 28, 2010
9:47 p.m.: Mets lose, 4-1. Johan Santana drops to 10-9. Silver lining: Ruben Tejada extends his hitting streak to two games.

9:43 p.m.: Luis Hernandez grounds out to first base to lead off the bottom of the ninth in his Mets debut, against closer Brandon Lyon.

9:32 p.m.: David Wright's RBI single in the eighth gets the Mets on the board and breaks them out of an 0-for-7 rut with runners in scoring position. The Mets had left a runner on second base in the second through fifth innings. Ike Davis follows with a single off Wilton Lopez, but the Mets leave two on base when Lopez strikes out Jeff Francoeur and Tim Byrdak retires Josh Thole on a sinking liner to left field that is snared by Jason Bourgeois. Astros lead, 4-1, heading to the ninth.

9:01 p.m.: Johan Santana won't have the ignominy of a third straight complete-game loss. He's lifted for pinch hitter Mike Hessman in the seventh inning with the Mets trailing, 4-0. Santana's final line: 7 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 HR, 1 HBP, 101 pitches (70 strikes)

8:49 p.m.: Brett Myers has completed the sixth inning for the 27th time in 27 starts this season. The last pitcher in the majors to open a season with 27 straight starts of six-plus innings: Curt Schilling, who ran the table (35-for-35 in 2002).

8:40 p.m.: Brett Myers takes the mound for the bottom of the sixth with a 4-0 lead. If he completes the inning, he will have completed six innings in 27 straight starts -- a new Astros record. Larry Dierker completed six innings in 26 straight in 1969/70.

8:23 p.m.: Carlos Lee belts a two-run homer off Johan Santana in the fifth and has three RBIs in the game. Lee also made a stellar diving stop toward the line at first base on a Santana grounder in the third. Astros lead, 4-0.

7:54 p.m.: Johan Santana puts a pair of zeroes on the board. He's thrown 57 pitches through three innings. Astros lead, 2-0, mid-third.

7:22 p.m.: Johan Santana's bid for a fourth straight complete game gets off to a rocky start. Carlos Lee and Tommy Manzella produce RBI singles in a 33-pitch first inning. It could have been worse. Houston left the bases loaded when Humberto Quintero flies out. The Astros lead, 2-0, heading to the bottom of the first.
