NEW YORK -- Wilmer Flores starts a ninth straight game at shortstop on Friday night against the Chicago Cubs, but his streak is about to be broken.

Ruben Tejada, who has had only two at-bats during that span, is due to start a weekend game, Terry Collins said.

Flores remains the priority at shortstop.

“Wilmer has played a week straight now,” Collins said. “There’s no reason why he can’t have a day here and there.”

Flores, incidentally, is hitting .250 (8-for-32) with no extra-base hits, two RBIs and no walks since this audition began.

As for Tejada, Collins said: “As much as I know he dislikes what he’s doing, he’s keeping himself ready. When he gets back in there, he knows he has to help us win.”
