NEW YORK -- Gonzalez Germen will join the Mets from Triple-A Las Vegas for the upcoming West Coast trip while Bartolo Colon is on bereavement leave. That leave is from three to seven days, so the Mets can keep Colon on the list until his next scheduled start.

Germen is 2-0 with a 0.52 ERA and is 5-for-5 in save chances in 14 Pacific Coast League appearances since getting demoted on July 8.

Colon was scratched from Monday's start and has traveled to the Dominican Republic to be with his gravely ill mother.

The decision allows Daisuke Matsuzaka to continue on a rehab assignment this week with Brooklyn and further delays a roster decision involving whom to drop for Matsuzaka.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
