Rapid Reaction: Mets 11, Dodgers 3

LOS ANGELES -- It was a pretty eventful Sunday afternoon in Southern California for the New York Mets.

Bartolo Colon may have made his last start for the franchise. David Wright left the game in the third inning with muscle spasms in his neck, followed by Daniel Murphy leaving with a sore calf in the ninth. The team turned its first triple play since 2010. Lucas Duda hit two home runs, including the longest by any Met this season. Oh, and the Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 11-3, for the first time at Dodger Stadium since 2012.

The Mets finished the short road trip to Oakland and Los Angeles 2-3.

Bartolo’s return: In his first start since going on the bereavement list because of the death of his mother, Bartolo Colon was on point against the Dodgers. He allowed two runs over six innings, striking out five.

Colon is flying back to the Dominican Republic for his mother’s funeral on Thursday, but he will be back in time to make his next start Saturday.

This may have been Colon’s final start as a Met because he has been placed on revocable waviers, meaning if a team claims him, the Mets can work out a trade or simply dump Colon on the claiming team, which would equate to a salary dump. Colon is owed $11 million next season. They can also pull back Colon and keep him, and if he clears waivers they can work out a trade with any team.

“He’s had a difficult week,” manager Terry Collins said before Sunday’s game. “He was bothered by the fact that he had to miss that start [Monday], but he has to do what he has to do there.”

Power supply: Duda’s third-inning home run turned some heads, and his second of the game in the ninth put him alone at third in the NL at 26 for the season. The first home run was special because it landed about four rows from the top of the right-field pavilion, a place where not many players are able to power home runs toward.

According to ESPN Stats & Information data, the ball traveled 457 feet, the longest ball hit by any Mets player this season.

Duda’s five RBIs in the game are a career high. The Mets hit four home runs in the game to tie a season high.

One pitch, three outs: The Mets turned a triple play to get Colon out of a sixth-inning jam. It was the Mets’ first triple play since May 19, 2010 at Washington.

The Dodgers had Yasiel Puig on second base and Adrian Gonzalez on first when Matt Kemp hit into a routine double play, but Puig rounded third and was thrown out easily at the plate to complete the 5-4-3-2 triple play.

Christmas in August: The first game of this series featured some pretty bad shortstop play by the Mets, and the finale featured some of the same by the Dodgers.

Hanley Ramirez, in his first game back from the DL, muffed a ground ball hit by Wright in the third inning that could have started a routine double play and gotten the Dodgers out of the inning. Ramirez was playing fairly shallow in the infield for some reason and the ball got on him quickly. He could manage only to deflect it, leading to it being ruled a hit.

A batter later Duda hit his home run.

Later in the inning, with two outs, Ramirez fielded an easy ground ball from Juan Lagares but pulled up on the throw to first, and first baseman Gonzalez couldn’t make the catch. The error was given to Gonzalez, but it was clearly a poor throw by Ramirez.

A batter later Ruben Tejada hit another home run.

That gave the Mets five runs on two home runs spurred by two bad plays from Ramirez.

What’s next: The Mets are off Monday before returning to Citi Field to face the Atlanta Braves. Dillon Gee (4-6, 3.84 ERA) starts Tuesday against Alex Wood (9-9, 3.05).
