NEW YORK -- Barring a trade that ships out Bartolo Colon or another starting pitcher, the Mets appear prepared to wait until rosters expand on Monday to activate Daisuke Matsuzaka from the disabled list.
Terry Collins expected Matsuzaka would make one more rehab start with Brooklyn on Thursday. Later, however, Sandy Alderson said Matsuzaka threw “pretty extensively” on Monday’s off-day and that minor-league start with the Cyclones is all but off the table.
As for the likelihood the Mets trade Colon and create a need for Matsuzaka earlier, Alderson said: "I can't comment on that. I don't know what will transpire between now and the 1st."
Colon’s next scheduled start is Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field.
Matsuzaka, officially on the DL with right elbow inflammation, already has made three rehab starts.
