Third-catcher Nickeas promoted

Mike Nickeas will join the Mets as a third catcher for Thursday's series finale in Atlanta.

Nickeas, 27, hit .283 (75-for-265) with five homers and 33 RBIs in 82 games with Double-A Binghamton. He then played seven games with Triple-A Buffalo.

He was acquired from the Texas Rangers for Victor Diaz in 2006. A defensively capable catcher, Nickeas entered this season with a career .231 hitter in 1,249 minor league at-bats.
