Don Long became the second candidate to interview for the Mets' hitting coach position.

Former Pirates hitting coach Don Long became the second candidate to interview for the Mets' hitting coach job when he met with Mets officials on Tuesday morning. Long, who spent the past three seasons in that role with Pittsburgh, is credited with helping Jason Bay.

Bay actually recommended Long be interviewed for the job.

He previously served as Phillies minor league hitting coordinator for eight years also served as a minor league manager with the Angels for 11 years.

Andy Van Slyke was the first candidate to interview.

Meanwhile, a team source says Moises Alou is not a candidate for the staff at this point.
