Tim Byrdak is "on the radar" of the Mets and could end up competing with Taylor Tankersley for a left-handed relief role in spring training, a source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com on Wednesday.
Tankersley, an ex-Marlin, previously had agreed to a minor league deal with the club.
Terry Collins mentioned earlier Wednesday that Sandy Alderson was optimistic about adding another left-handed reliever.
Byrdak, 37, went 2-2 with a 3.49 ERA in 64 relief appearances for the Houston Astros last season, spanning 38 2/3 innings. He also has pitched for the Kansas City Royals, Baltimore Orioles and Detroit Tigers during his career. Left-handed batters hit .213 against Byrdak last season.
