Elmer Dessens told the Mets he is willing to re-sign with the organization on a minor league deal with a spring-training invite. But the reliever said team officials responded that they don't intend to bring him back.
"They said, 'We're going in another direction,'" Dessens said.
Dessens, 40, said he hopes agent Oscar Suarez can locate another team to allow him to continue his career. He went 4-2 with a 2.30 ERA in 53 major league relief appearances last season.
"I’m training right now and throwing and want to play another year," Dessens said.
