ESPN's Baseball Tonight bus in PSL
By Adam Rubin
John Kruk, Tim Kurkjian and the Baseball Tonight tour bus pulled into the Mets' Port St. Lucie complex on Wednesday and were warmly greeted by manager Terry Collins.
Collins recalled managing Kruk in the Mexico winter league. The Mets' skipper particularly recalled Aurelio Rodriguez sending a shot to the outfield wall, which was half the height of a standard major league wall. Kruk scaled the fence and was standing on top of it, trying to make the catch, but ended up crashing down and suffering broken ribs.
Collins also recalled having a beat-up station wagon. His passenger Kruk, in uniform after games, would have him pull over at a store to get beverages afterward.
"He could hit," Collins said about Kruk. "He could stinkin' hit."
Kruk, Kurkjian and the ESPN crew plan to participate in the Mets' next bowling night, on Sunday.
