Multiple Mets personnel said no decision has been resolved on second base, and the speculation continues to be Brad Emaus or Luis Castillo will emerge as the second baseman, with Daniel Murphy also on the roster.
2010 Season Stats
In response to a report naming Luis Hernandez as Terry Collins' preference, one Mets person said, referring to a Mets infield prospect: "Why did we send [Jordany] Valdespin down?" The answer: Because evaluations are based on 2010 showings far more so than spring-training showings.
As I've mentioned, I continue to hear Collins would prefer not to have Castillo on the roster.
• Jenrry Mejia returned from an extended weekend in the Dominican Republic, where his mother underwent surgery Friday. Mejia threw twice in his native country while away, pitching coach Dan Warthen said, but Warthen won't use Mejia in a game until at least Friday, after the Mets' two-day trip to Fort Myers. Mejia is scheduled to throw a heavy, 60-pitch bullpen session today.
• Ike Davis became the second Mets player to be rear-ended in a vehicular accident this spring training, joining Willie Harris. Davis said he was rear-ended Monday while on U.S. 1. The only casualties: six live bait he had purchased, which he found floating atop the water afterward. Davis was en route to a fishing engagement with Jason Isringhausen.
"Just my bumper is a little messed up," Davis said.
• Joe Torre is due to attend tonight's Mets-Nats game, according to Fred Wilpon.
• Taylor Tankersley's wife, who was due Friday, has yet to deliver the addition to their family. The birth of Huck Tankersley is planned to be induced Thursday if he does not arrive sooner.
