Postgame review: Twins 4, Mets 3
By Andrew Marchand
Mike Pelfrey gave up nine hits and three runs (all earned) in his five innings. In the second base fight, Luis Castillo went 1-for-3. His bloop single allowed a running Jose Reyes to score from first. Brad Emaus had a double. Justin Turner went 1-for-2. Turner was thrown out trying to steal a base.
• The stadium gun was off here. Mike Pelfrey said he looked back and saw he threw 43 mph on the board once.
Though, he obviously wasn't that low, his fastball isn't there yet. He said he needs to get up to 92-93. He started the spring at 84-88, but he and manager Terry Collins thought Pelfrey's fastball is going in the right direction.
"Unless the 43 is accurate," said Pelfrey, who was in the upper-80s most of th day.
He thought the adrenaline of the games counting at the end of the month will pump up his fastball. Collins mentioned this too. For now, he tried an expletive method to make himself "mad."
"I just was cussing," Pelfrey said.
Pelfrey said his "secondary stuff wasn't very good today." He didn't walk anyone this spring.
• David Wright had a mixed bag on defense. In the first, he made an excellent diving stop on Justin Morneau hard ground ball. Wright, with the shift on, was in the shortstop spot. In the third, Wright, in basically the same spot, made an error on a much easier ball from Morneau's bat.
• Jose Reyes walked twice to go along with a single. He scored a run.
