Carrasco returns, Thayer down

By Adam Rubin

D.J. Carrasco, who was demoted to Triple-A Buffalo on April 24 despite being in the first season of a two-year, $2.4 million deal, will rejoin the Mets on Sunday in Pittsburgh. He will fellow right-hander replace Dale Thayer, who suffered the walk-off loss Wednesday in Miwaukee, in his fourth appearance with the major league club.

Carrasco had been working as a starting pitcher with the Bisons. He took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning in his most recent outing, Wednesday against the Pirates’ Triple-A affiliate Indianapolis. Overall, Carrasco was 2-3 with a 3.47 ERA in nine appearances (eight starts) with Buffalo. He allowed 46 hits and 17 walks while striking out 37 in 46 2/3 innings.

Terry Collins said he like Thayer's fastball and changeup, and that he needed to work on his slider to return and be effective.
