K-Rod upset after blowing save

By Mike Mazzeo

Francisco Rodriguez grilled himself after blowing his second straight save on Wednesday night.

“I definitely gotta get my head out of my butt pretty much. Simple as that,” said K-Rod, who gave up a two-out, two-strike, game-tying RBI single to Conor Jackson in the ninth. “I gotta stop these pathetic outings, and I gotta get it done. I gotta be more aggressive, make quality pitches and get people out, because it’s been really embarrassing this month.

“They’re too comfortable in the box, so I’ve gotta pound people in and be more aggressive, that’s the bottom line.”

Rodriguez has now allowed 11 earned runs in his last 11 outings (10 2/3 innings) for a 9.28 ERA. The last and only other time he blew consecutive saves as a Met was back on Aug. 4 and 7, 2009.

Rodriguez hadn’t pitched since blowing a two-run lead in Atlanta six days ago, but said he was “fine.” He had saved 19 consecutive games before that debacle.

“I feel pretty good with my pitches. I used every one of them tonight. Unfortunately, I didn’t make the last pitch. I gotta stop that because it’s been really frustrating for me.

If you look at my stats, I’ve been giving up more hits than innings. Left-handers are hitting .300, right-handers are hitting over .200. It’s gotta stop. I gotta start getting some clean innings and start being more aggressive.”
