Torres should be ready for Opening Day
By Adam Rubin
Andres Torres is ready for play in a Grapefruit League game Tuesday, signaling he will avoid the DL to open the season.
Torres, working back from a strained left calf, played nine innings in center field in a minor league intrasquad game Monday. He went 0-for-7 with a pair of walks.
“My legs feel good. I just need more at-bats," Torres told reporters in Port St. Lucie. "I'm kind of cold and everything, but at least my leg is good. That's the main thing -- that I feel good. I hope to play tomorrow and see how it goes, but I feel great right now. I feel 100 percent.”
As for what he learned from the injury, Torres added: "I try to do too much extra work. I'm learning to take it easy. Sometimes I was working out too much, and right now it's sometimes frustrating. But I have to [look at the] positives. And right now, I feel good right now. And I'm going to be ready for the season.”
