Beltran to get video salute, too
By Adam Rubin
As was the case with Jose Reyes' first visit to Citi Field since leaving the Mets, the organization plans to show a short video on the scoreboard recognizing Carlos Beltran's return to Queens as a visitor before Friday's series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals, team officials told ESPNNewYork.com.
The plan to recognize Reyes generated talk-radio debate in the days leading up to the shortstop's April 24 return, but the video ultimately was understated and brief and there was no noticeable fan backlash afterward. Unlike Reyes, who departed as a free agent, Beltran was traded anyway.
He did not face the Mets after the July 27 trade to San Francisco last season.
Beltran, who signed a two-year, $26 million deal with the Cardinals during the offseason, currently leads the National League in homers with 15. He is tied for the RBI lead with Los Angeles' Andre Ethier with 41.
Beltran logged 839 games as a Met from 2005 through last summer, compiling a .280 average, 149 homers, 559 RBIs and 100 steals.
