TC: Rauch DL decision looming
By Adam Rubin
WASHINGTON -- Terry Collins said Jon Rauch, who remained in New York during the current series to allow his elbow to calm, will be examined by team doctors Friday morning. The manager added that if it is determined Rauch is unable to contribute for the weekend Subway Series, the disabled list is a realistic destination.
Rauch had an issue with the elbow in the homestand finale Monday. He was examined and found to have "debris" in the elbow, the Mets announced.
The DL decision regarding Rauch may have a direct impact on whether Jeremy Hefner retains a major league roster spot.
Collins said he would like to keep Hefner for bullpen duty. However, Chris Young needs to be activated from paternity leave Saturday, after the expiration of the three-day leave. And unless Rauch lands on the DL at that point, there does not seem another viable candidate to option to Triple-A Buffalo, since Collins said he cannot foresee Elvin Ramirez being demoted.
