TC doesn't mind Johan snub

By Adam Rubin

LOS ANGELES -- While believing Johan Santana was a worthy candidate, Terry Collins was not exactly shedding a tear at the southpaw not being asked to participate in the July 10 All-Star Game. After missing last season rehabbing from shoulder surgery, Collins just as soon prefers Santana take some time off and be ready to start the second-half opener in Atlanta.

With one more first-half start remaining, Friday against the Cubs at Citi Field, Santana is 6-4 with a 2.76 ERA in 16 starts. He also, of course, has the organization's first no-hitter.

The 13-man NL pitching staff will be composed of Matt Cain, Aroldis Chapman, R.A. Dickey, Gio Gonzalez, Cole Hamels, Joel Hanrahan, Clayton Kershaw, Craig Kimbrel, Lance Lynn, Wade Miley, Jonathan Papelbon, Stephen Strasburg and Huston Street.

"I saw the names of the pitchers run across that screen this morning, and I said, 'Wow, there's a lot of guys doing pretty well,'" Collins said. "For me, I guess I'm a little selfish. And I hope he enjoys the break and rests up a little bit, because we've got a big second half to go."
