Bay a hit in Triple-A appearance
By Adam Rubin
ATLANTA -- Jason Bay went 1-for-4 with a walk, run scored and two strikeouts while serving as the DH for Triple-A Buffalo in an 8-2 win at Pawtucket on Saturday.
Bay was warmly received by the pro-Red Sox crowd while playing against Boston's International League affiliate. He signed his four-year, $66 million deal in Flushing after playing a season and a half with the Red Sox.
It was Bay's first Triple-A rehab game after two appearances with Class A St. Lucie, during which he went 0-for-6 with two walks. Overall, Bay has only played left field for seven innings over three rehab games. The other action has been spent at DH.
Bay's single came in the eighth inning against right-hander Will Inman.
Terry Collins has suggested Bay, who is returning from a concussion, could be activated for Tuesday's series opener in Washington. The manager plans to speak with Bay on Sunday to gauge his readiness to return.
