Mets acquire Hicks from A's

The Mets have acquired 27-year-old backup infielder Brandon Hicks from the Oakland A's for cash.

Hicks hit .172 with three homers and seven RBIs in 64 at-bats with Oakland this past season. He was 1-for-26 with the Atlanta Braves over the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He has 42 strikeouts in 90 career major league at-bats.

He batted .244 with 18 homers and 61 RBIs in 328 at-bats with Triple-A Sacramento this past season.

In his major league career, Hicks has started 19 games at shortstop and one apiece at first base, second base and third base.
