Lutz to remain a corner man for now

By Adam Rubin

JUPITER, Fla. -- Terry Collins said he still intends to experiment with Zach Lutz in the outfield later in camp. But Lutz primarily will be a third baseman for the next few weeks, with David Wright poised to leave Saturday for the World Baseball Classic.

Lutz has never played the outfield, but worked extensively early in camp with outfield coach Tom Goodwin.

Marlon Byrd is the clear-cut frontrunner to claim a righty-hitting outfield spot (along with Collin Cowgill). Jamie Hoffmann would be an alternative to Byrd. Not using Lutz in the outfield over the next couple of weeks indicates he is not a serious competitor for that role.
