TC unsure about Duda's lineup availability
By Adam Rubin
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Terry Collins said he's unsure whether Lucas Duda will be medically cleared to play in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Miami Marlins at Tradition Field.
Duda left camp Friday morning to visit a doctor. Although he returned by game time, Matt den Dekker instead started in the outfield.
The Mets would not specify Duda's trouble, other than for Sandy Alderson to describe it as a "small medical issue" that would not affect Duda's baseball availability.
“I just went to the doctor. Everything is fine," Duda said, without elaborating. "That’s it. Play tomorrow. Everything’s good.”
But Collins said he cannot be sure Duda will play Saturday.
“I don’t know,” Collins said. “… They forget the medical department has a little say in it. When you have a medical issue that has to be addressed, the medical department pretty much comes in and says if he’s ready to go or not. Lucas Duda will always try to play, but we’ll see how he is in the morning. It was addressed, and we’re hopeful that tomorrow we’ll see how it turns out.”
