D'Arnaud departs after getting plunked

By Adam Rubin

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud departed Friday's game against the Detroit Tigers in the middle of the fifth inning after being hit with a pitch from right-hander Luke Putkonen just below the right elbow.

D'Arnaud had been scheduled to catch LaTroy Hawkins in the bottom of the fifth, but was pulled because the inside of the forearm tightened.

D'Arnaud, who had the area wrapped after departing the game, did not believe the issue was serious. Putkonen hit three Mets in a two-inning span.

"It got enough meat to where I'll be fine -- just let it heal, relax for today," d'Arnaud said. "Fortunately it wasn't a couple of inches higher or lower."

Told it didn't sound great when he was plunked, d'Arnaud said: "It didn't feel great, either."
