David Wright, Team USA advance

By Adam Rubin

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- David Wright will not be returning to camp just yet.

After losing to Mexico in its World Baseball Classic opener, Team USA consecutively beat Italy and Canada to advance to Round 2 in Miami. The latter victory came in an elimination game Sunday, with a 9-4 win over the Canadians.

Wright had a stellar opening round, highlighted by a tiebreaking grand slam against Italy on Saturday. He went 5-for-11 with three walks and five RBIs in three games. All three walks and a double came in the clincher against Canada.

Team USA opens Round 2 at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Miami against Puerto Rico, which lost to the Dominican Republic later Sunday.
