Kirk throws, but baseball activity limited
By Adam Rubin
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Kirk Nieuwenhuis tossed a baseball as well as continued to hit in a cage Thursday, nearly two weeks after suffering a bone bruise on his left knee.
Terry Collins said the Mets hoped to have Nieuwenhuis doing more baseball activity in the coming days, but the manager cautioned that running would be reintroduced slowly because of the nature of the bone bruise.
• Collins said Daniel Murphy (side muscle strain) remains on track to play in a minor league game this weekend.
