Dodgers catcher recalls Harvey's UNC days
By Adam Rubin
Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Tim Federowicz has watched highlights of Matt Harvey "here and there" on television. Federowicz sees a far more advanced version of the pitcher he caught at the University of North Carolina, when he was a junior and Harvey was a freshman.
"He was just all raw talent there," Federowicz recalled before Tuesday's series opener. "He's developed a lot. He was just overpowering guys his freshman year, using his fastball a lot. He was really just fastball, curveball -- and he'd throw some changeups in there. Now he has a slider. He's really developed a lot."
Harvey opposes Ted Lilly on Wednesday night at Citi Field.
As for Harvey's bulldog mentality, Federowicz said that's the same as in college.
"Oh, he's always been a guy who knows he's going to get you out," the Dodgers catcher said. "He's got a good mentality out there. He's a guy who's not going to give in. I mean, he's had that ever since then. He's always been a tough guy out there. Just his demeanor on the mound -- nothing really intimidated him."
