Plawecki, Boyd promoted to St. Lucie
By Adam Rubin
ATLANTA -- The Mets rewarded a trio of low-A Savannah players with promotions to high-A St. Lucie after a solid first half with the Gnats.
Catcher Kevin Plawecki, first baseman Jayce Boyd and closer Bret Mitchell were promoted to the Florida State League.
Plawecki, the 35th overall pick in 2012 out of Purdue, hit .314 with six homers and 43 RBIs in 245 at-bats with Savannah.
Boyd, selected in the sixth round of that draft out of Florida State, hit a league-leading .361 with five homers and 46 RBIs in 249 at-bats.
Mitchell, a right-hander taken in the 12th round in 2010 out of Minnesota State-Mankato, had 10 saves and a 0.978 WHIP.
Catchers Albert Cordero and Nelfi Zapata and right-hander Wanel Mesa were assigned to Savannah.
Brandon Nimmo, who missed a month in the first half with hand and back injuries, remains for now with the Gnats.
