Hefner remains in limbo
By Adam Rubin
LOS ANGELES -- Jeremy Hefner's fate remains unresolved after the right-hander had his elbow examined Monday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.
A team spokesman said Hefner would be reexamined Wednesday by team doctors.
For the time being, Hefner's demotion to Triple-A Las Vegas remains in effect. However, it will be rescinded and Hefner will be placed on the major league DL if doctors believe the elbow injury is sufficient to warrant that move.
Hefner had been 0-2 with a 9.13 ERA in five starts since the All-Star break.
The Mets now will use a five-man rotation. The next turn: Matt Harvey (Tuesday), Dillon Gee (Wednesday), Zack Wheeler (Thursday), Jonathon Niese (Friday) and Jenrry Mejia (Saturday).
