Gee: 'Probably the best I've ever thrown it'
By Adam Rubin
With all the hype about Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler, the Mets quietly have one of the best back-end starters in baseball.
"He's been outstanding," Terry Collins said about Dillon Gee. "Once he got over that forearm thing, he's been outstanding. He's been the Dillon Gee we know."
How pleased is Gee with his recent string of performances?
"I'm throwing the ball probably the best I've really ever thrown it," Gee said after limiting the Minnesota Twins to one unearned run in 7 2/3 innings in the Mets' 6-1 victory at Target Field.
Gee now has nine wins, matching Harvey for the team lead. His 2.27 ERA since May 30 ranks third in the NL, trailing only Jose Fernandez and Clayton Kershaw.
Gee made sure to pay respect to his outfielders after Juan Lagares again put on an outfield clinic Monday.
"I've always pitched to contact, and having guys out there like that definitely helps," Gee said. "All of them have good speed and good range and they really track it down out there."
