Minors 9.7.13: Vegas ousted in PCL

By Adam Rubin

SALT LAKE 4, LAS VEGAS 3: The 51s were eliminated from the Pacific Coast League playoffs in Game 4 of the best-of-five series. Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who had homered in the first inning, struck out to end the game with Dustin Lawley at third base. The 51s left a runner at third base in four different innings. That also included Rylan Sandoval striking out to end the eighth with Mike Baxter at third base as the potential tying run. Starter Aaron Harang allowed three runs on six hits and two walks in six innings. In his Triple-A debut, Jeff Walters recorded the final five outs, allowing one hit while striking out three. Walters set Binghamton single-season and career saves records with 38 in 2013. The loss leaves Savannah as the lone Mets affiliate remaining in the postseason. The Gnats have advanced to the South Atlantic League championship series. Box
