Ike in limbo as teams jockey at first base
By Adam Rubin
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The educated lobby speculation at the winter meetings is that the Milwaukee Brewers will have a new first baseman very shortly. And what happens there impacts the Mets.
While Milwaukee may simply re-sign Corey Hart, the speculation now is that the best bet may be acquiring Logan Morrison from the Miami Marlins.
If that materializes, that would further limit the potential landing spots for Ike Davis.
The Tampa Bay Rays have Davis on their list, but the best bet is that they sign James Loney.
The Pittsburgh Pirates need a lefty-hitting first baseman, but they have been prioritizing on-base percentage. And the Houston Astros also are looking for a first baseman, although there is no indication right now that anything is serious between the Mets and Houston.
